AI Website Builder Statistics 2026: Market Share, Revenue, Adoption, Growth

AI website builders ask a few questions about your business, then generate a site: layout, copy, images and sometimes a store or booking page.

They are a different product from AI app builders like Lovable or Bolt.new, which produce software. Website builders target small businesses, freelancers and people who want a live site this week.

This page collects the figures that can be traced to a named source and date. Data was checked on October 20, 2026. Market share numbers come from W3Techs, which updates daily, and I read the live page today.

Revenue and user figures come from company reports or news coverage, and each one is labeled.

Website builder market share in 2026

W3Techs tracks which platform runs a site. The numbers below are from its live overview page on October 20, 2026.

PlatformShare of all websitesShare of known CMS market
WordPress39.6%58.3%
Shopify5.3%7.9%
Wix4.2%6.2%
Squarespace2.4%3.6%
Joomla1.1%1.6%
Webflow0.8%1.2%
GoDaddy Website Builder0.6%0.9%
  • 32.1% of websites use none of the systems W3Techs tracks.
  • Adding the four builders named above (Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, GoDaddy) gives 8.0% of all websites, by my addition.
  • A Colorlib article from October 1, 2026, citing W3Techs, puts Wix at 4.2%, up from 4.1% in October 2025 and 1.3% in January 2020. It shows Squarespace flat at 2.4%, Webflow down from 0.9% to 0.8%, and GoDaddy flat at 0.6%.

W3Techs detects the platform, not whether AI built the site. Nobody publishes a clean share of sites made with an AI builder, so beware of any page that claims one without a method.

Also check dates: Hostinger’s AI builder article lists WordPress at 59.6% and Wix at 6.1% of the CMS market with no date, and those differ from today’s W3Techs numbers.

How many new websites are AI-generated?

  • A study from Stanford University, Imperial College London and the Internet Archive used 33 months of Wayback Machine snapshots and the Pangram v3 detector. It classified 35% of newly published websites as AI-generated or AI-assisted by mid-2025. The share was close to zero before ChatGPT launched in November 2022 (Decrypt, Apr 28, 2026).

This measures page text, not whether a site came from an AI website builder. The coverage I read did not discuss the detector’s error rate, so treat 35% as an estimate.

Wix

Wix is the biggest public company in this group, and it owns both a classic builder and an AI app builder.

  • Q2 2026: Total revenue was $563.1 million, up 15% year over year. Creative Subscriptions revenue was $398.4 million, up 15%. Partners revenue was $213.8 million, up 17%. Total ARR reached $1.963 billion, up 15%. Bookings were $569.1 million, up 12% (Wix, Aug 4, 2026).
  • Outlook: Wix expects full-year 2026 revenue growth in the low-to-mid teens. It said bookings growth would lag by a few points because of softer Partners performance (Wix, Aug 4, 2026).
  • Base44: The Q2 release gave no Base44 ARR figure. It said Base44 should reach about 60% non-GAAP gross margin in the second half of 2026, up from near zero entering the year, and that Base44 launched its own model, Base 1. Earlier Wix-reported ARR numbers are in our Base44 statistics article.
  • Harmony: Wix’s CEO said the company’s own Harmony model was released earlier in 2026.

GoDaddy

  • Q2 2026: Revenue of $1.3 billion, up 7%, and ARR of $4.4 billion, up 6% (MarketBeat summary of the Jul 31, 2026 call). The article does not say who stated the ARR figure.
  • Airo: The annualized bookings run rate rose fivefold to $50 million from $10 million a quarter earlier. CEO Aman Bhutani said customers are choosing Airo faster than expected. The CFO said more than 70% of customers who used Airo this year had two or more products, and that free-to-paid conversion is stronger than before Airo.
  • Not disclosed: The coverage gave no count of websites created with Airo.

Hostinger

Hostinger’s own AI website builder data comes from the company’s blog, so read it as vendor data. It covers an April 2025 to March 2026 window.

  • 1 million+ AI Builder users since launch.
  • 93% to 95% of AI Builder users are first-time website builders.
  • Time to first publish: 0.8 days with the AI Builder, versus 1.9 days with the traditional builder.
  • Site types: 51% of active Builder sites are business sites, and about 31% are ecommerce.
  • Top markets: Brazil and India together account for more than 35% of users.

Hostinger does not publish a methodology for these numbers, so treat them as company claims.

Framer

  • $100 million Series D at a $2 billion valuation, led by Meritech Capital Partners and Atomico, announced August 28, 2025. Crunchbase puts total funding at $161 million.
  • Framer said it was on track to reach $100 million ARR the following year, which is a company target and not a reported result.
  • Framer said 40% of the latest Y Combinator batch uses its software. That is also a company claim.
  • No user count was given in the Crunchbase report.

Squarespace, Webflow and Shopify

I did not find verified, current AI-specific numbers for these platforms. What I can source is share of all websites from W3Techs (table above). Shopify is the largest of the three at 5.3%. For Shopify setup itself, see our guide to creating a Shopify store.

AI website builder market size

Hostinger’s article cites Precedence Research for an AI website builder market of $2.69 billion in 2025, $3.24 billion in 2026 and $17.43 billion by 2035, at a 20.55% CAGR.

It gives no date for the forecast and I could not open Precedence’s page, so confirm the numbers there before you quote them.

Broader context: Gartner forecast worldwide AI spending of $2.52 trillion in 2026, up 44% (Gartner, Jan 15, 2026). That covers all AI, not website builders.

Wix straddles both, which is why its Base44 numbers appear in the app-builder articles as well.

What the numbers suggest

  • Share barely moves. Wix gained 0.1 point in a year and Squarespace stayed flat. The AI boom has not yet reshuffled platform share, at least not by W3Techs’ measure.
  • Growth is in the mid teens at the leader. Wix’s 15% revenue and ARR growth is solid but not explosive.
  • AI add-ons are small next to the base. GoDaddy’s $50 million Airo run rate sits against $4.4 billion total ARR, so it is roughly 1% of that figure by my calculation.
  • Content is shifting faster than platforms. If the Stanford-led estimate holds, a third of new sites already carry AI-written text.
  • A generated site still needs a plan. Cost, hosting and SEO decisions don’t disappear. Our website development cost in India guide shows what custom work costs by comparison.
