AI Analytics Statistics 2026: Market Size, Adoption, Accuracy, Tool Usage

AI analytics means using machine learning and generative AI to find patterns in data, answer questions in plain language, write queries and charts, and flag changes automatically.

Business intelligence tools, product analytics platforms such as the one in our PostHog statistics article, spreadsheets and chatbots with data connections all do some version of it, which is why the statistics you find online contradict each other so often.

Market size: why the estimates disagree by 18x

Two market research vendors published 2026 figures for what sounds like the same thing. They are not close.

SourceCategory20252026ForecastCAGR
Precedence Research (page updated Oct 24, 2025)AI in data analytics$31.22B$40.30B$310.97B by 203429.10% (2025 to 2034)
The Business Research Company (Sep 2026)Generative AI in analytics$1.69B$2.21B$5.51B by 203025.7% (2026 to 2030)
  • Why the gap: The categories differ. One covers all AI used in data analytics, the other only generative AI in analytics. Neither page I read explained exactly which products and services count, so I cannot say how much of the difference is scope and how much is method.
  • Growth rates look alike: Both imply roughly 30% growth from 2025 to 2026. My own division gives 29.1% for Precedence and 30.8% for The Business Research Company, close to the 30.7% the second page states.
  • How to treat them: Both firms sell paid reports, and these figures are their estimates. Neither was checked against company filings. When you quote a market size, name the firm, the category and the date, and expect other firms to publish different numbers.
  • Spending forecast: Gartner published a worldwide AI spending forecast on September 16, 2026, with a headline of 49.5% growth in 2026. Its page would not load for me, so I give only the headline from the title and no dollar figure.

How many companies use AI?

Government surveys give the most reliable adoption numbers, because they are large, repeated and use fixed definitions. They measure AI use in general, not analytics specifically.

United States19.8% (range 17% to 20% across the period)Dec 14, 2025 to May 3, 2026Census Bureau BTOS, published May 26, 2026
European Union (10+ employees)19.95%2025Eurostat Statistics Explained (data extracted Dec 2025)
EU, strategic sectors only18% in 2025, up from 7% in 20212021 to 2025Joint Research Centre, Oct 14, 2026
  • US detail: 37% of firms with 250 or more employees used AI, against 32% of firms with 100 to 249 employees. Fewer than 20% of firms with four or fewer employees did. By sector, Information was at 39.7%, Finance and Insurance 33.9% and Retail Trade about 14%. Between 20% and 23% of firms expected to use AI within six months. The question asks about use “in any business function,” as reworded in November 2025.
  • EU detail: The 2025 figure compares with about 13.5% a year earlier. That 2024 number is my subtraction from the reported 6.47 point increase, not a figure Eurostat states directly. Top purposes were marketing or sales (34.70%) and business administration (31.05%). Machine learning for data analysis was used by roughly 3.78% to 7.22% of enterprises, and the page gives a range rather than one number.
  • EU sectors: The Joint Research Centre says cultural and creative sectors (38%) and media (34%) lead, and it names a lack of expertise and regulatory uncertainty as main bottlenecks. It also gives energy’s 2025 share as both 30% and 34% in different parts of the same piece.
  • The comparison: About one in five firms in both the US and EU report using AI. That is far lower than some third-party roundups, such as one search result headlined “88% Adoption” that I did not open, so I cannot say how it defines use or whom it surveyed.

Executive surveys: use and results

McKinsey’s State of AI survey (published August 25, 2026) collected 1,719 responses from 97 countries between May 4 and June 8, 2026.

  • Use: “Nearly nine in ten” respondents report regular AI use. McKinsey’s page gave no exact percentage.
  • Financial impact: 37% said AI has contributed positively to their organization’s EBIT.
  • How to read it: The respondents answered a consulting firm’s survey, and the page did not describe how they were chosen, so I cannot say who is over- or under-represented. The gap between McKinsey’s “nearly nine in ten” and the government’s roughly one in five is mostly a question of who is asked and how “use” is defined.

AI Analytics Workers and time saved

The Census Bureau’s Household Trends and Outlook Pulse Survey (March 2026 wave, published August 11 and revised September 24, 2026) asked workers about AI at work.

  • About 56% of US workers said they used AI on the job for at least one of 11 tasks.
  • Among workers asked about the previous week, 31% said AI saved one to two hours, 15% said three to four hours and 15% said more than four hours. 25% said it saved under an hour, 10% said no time and 4% said it took extra time.
  • Common tasks were searching for information or technical help (37%), writing (32%), generating ideas (32%) and interpreting or summarizing information (31%). The article did not list data analysis as a task.

How AI Analytics teams use AI for data work?

Coupler.io, a data-connection vendor, published usage data on October 21, 2026.

It covers anonymized, account-level activity from agency and small-business accounts on its own platform between September 2025 and September 2026.

  • 22% of its agency and small-business accounts send business data to an AI tool.
  • AI’s share of ongoing data activity rose from 4% in September 2025 to 28% in August 2026.
  • 62% of MeasureCamp respondents said AI helped most with exploring data and forming hypotheses, and 8% said it created more work than value.
  • 37% of professionals in an earlier survey named missing business context as a barrier to trusting AI, and 35% said they cannot see how an answer was reached.
  • By role, C-level users made up 40% of AI-connected accounts, business owners 36%, marketing managers 32% and data analysts 14%.

This is vendor-run research. It does not disclose sample sizes or response rates, and it only describes Coupler.io customers, who chose to connect data to AI.

I would not generalize it to all businesses. The article also reports which AI assistants its customers use, and I left those percentages out because they describe one vendor’s connector rather than the market.

Accuracy: can AI write the right query?

The best public evidence is an academic benchmark, and it is older than the rest of this page.

  • Spider 2.0: A paper published at ICLR 2025 (arXiv version revised March 17, 2025) built 632 real-world enterprise text-to-SQL tasks. Its best agent, built on o1-preview, solved 21.3%. The same paper cites 91.2% on the older Spider 1.0 and 73.0% on BIRD, both measured on easier tasks.
  • What it shows: The same kind of system scored far lower on the new, enterprise-style tasks than on the older benchmarks. The paper describes the new tasks as real-world enterprise workflows.
  • Caveat: The result is from 2025 and models have changed since. I did not find a 2026 figure from a source I could read, so treat 21.3% as a floor from one test, not a current accuracy rate.
  • Why it matters for code too: Writing a query is a small version of writing code. Our vibe coding statistics and Cursor statistics articles cover how developers use AI tools to generate code.
  • Trust: In Coupler.io’s vendor data above, the top stated barriers were missing business context and not being able to see how an answer was produced.

Analyst forecasts

Gartner’s data and analytics predictions (March 11, 2026) are forecasts, not measurements.

  • GenAI and AI agents will prompt a $58 billion shakeup in mainstream productivity tools through 2027, Gartner predicts.
  • By 2030, universal semantic layers will be treated as critical infrastructure alongside data platforms and cybersecurity.

Gartner’s June 16, 2026 trends release also covers agentic data streaming and data management, but the figures I could extract came without enough context to quote.

Where AI shows up in analytics tools?

I did not collect verified usage numbers for Power BI Copilot, Tableau, ThoughtSpot or Looker, so I make no comparison among them.

For lighter, privacy-focused tools that do not center on AI, see our Plausible Analytics statistics and Umami Analytics statistics. Umami’s v3.4.0 release did add read-only MCP support so AI assistants can query its data.

What the numbers suggest?

  • AI use is common in surveys of executives and uncommon in surveys of all firms. About 20% of US and EU firms report any AI use, while nearly nine in ten McKinsey respondents do.
  • Adoption rises with company size. 37% of US firms with 250 or more staff use AI, against under 20% of the smallest firms.
  • Money results are mixed. 37% of McKinsey respondents report a positive EBIT effect, so most did not.
  • Accuracy is the open problem. The best public benchmark shows AI failing most real enterprise SQL tasks, though the test predates 2026.
  • Market-size figures are not comparable. $40B and $2.2B describe different categories from different vendors.
