Cloudflare Workers is a serverless platform that runs your JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or WebAssembly code on Cloudflare’s network instead of on one central server. It competes with AWS Lambda, Vercel and Netlify functions.
Around it sit related products such as Workers AI, which runs AI models, and Wrangler, the command-line tool for deploying.
Cloudflare is public, so some of its numbers come from filings. Others come from management comments on earnings calls, which I could only read through automated summaries.

Cloudflare Workers Developers and customers
- 7.4 million developers: Zacks and MarketBeat both report that Cloudflare’s developer count topped 7.4 million after adding nearly 2 million in the second quarter of 2026. MarketBeat adds that this quarterly addition was more than the 1.5 million added in all of 2025, per CEO Matthew Prince. Both sources are secondhand: Zacks wrote a summary, and MarketBeat says its article was generated by software. Cloudflare’s own press release did not give a developer count, only “record growth” in developers. Cloudflare does not define “developer” in anything I read, so this may count free accounts and sign-ups, not active deployers. Confirm the figure in the earnings call transcript before you quote it.
- Large customers (over $100,000 a year): MarketBeat’s summary says 4,698, up 27%, with dollar-based net retention of 120%. I could not confirm those in the press release, so treat them as unverified. MarketBeat also gave paying-customer figures that I could not corroborate, and I left them out.
- Named customer: Intercom, quoted on the Workers page, says it went “from concept to production in under a day.” That is a vendor-published testimonial.
- Workers revenue: Cloudflare does not break it out. MarketBeat’s summary says the CFO called Workers the company’s fastest-growing product area, and Zacks says it has “become a meaningful revenue contributor.” Neither gives a dollar figure.
Cloudflare financials (company-wide, not Workers only)
| Item | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Q2 2026 revenue | $696.1 million, up 36% from $512.3 million | Cloudflare 8-K, Aug 6, 2026 |
| Six-month revenue | $1,335.8 million, against $991.4 million a year earlier | Cloudflare 8-K |
| Q3 2026 revenue guidance | $736.0 to $737.0 million | Cloudflare 8-K |
| Full-year 2026 guidance | $2,864.0 to $2,870.0 million | Cloudflare 8-K |
| Non-human share of traffic | Over 50% for the first time in Q2 | Management statement via MarketBeat and Zacks |
Cloudflare’s CEO said in the release that “we are seeing a fundamental rewrite of the Internet for machine-to-machine traffic.” The “over 50% non-human” figure is a management statement that I could only read secondhand.
Cloudflare Workers Pricing
Cloudflare’s Workers pricing page (last updated October 2, 2026) lists two plans.
| Workers Free | Workers Paid | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $5 a month minimum per account |
| Requests | 100,000 a day, capped | 10 million a month included, then $0.30 per extra million |
| CPU time | 10 ms per invocation | 30 million CPU ms a month included, then $0.02 per extra million |
| Duration charge | None | None |
| Egress or bandwidth fees | None | None |
| Static asset requests | Free and unlimited | Free and unlimited |
Workers AI (pricing page updated October 20, 2026): 10,000 Neurons a day free on both plans, then $0.011 per 1,000 Neurons on the Paid plan. A Neuron is Cloudflare’s unit for AI usage.
Cloudflare Workers Platform limits
From Cloudflare’s limits page:
| Limit | Free | Paid |
|---|---|---|
| Script size (uncompressed bundle) | 64 MiB | 64 MiB |
| CPU time per HTTP request | 10 ms | Up to 5 minutes (default 30 seconds) |
| Memory per isolate | 128 MB | 128 MB |
| Subrequests per invocation | 50 | 10,000 (up to 10 million) |
| Workers per account | 100 | 500 |
Startup time is capped at 1 second on both plans. Cron Trigger and Queue Consumer runs can use up to 15 minutes of CPU time on Paid.
Cloudflare Workers Network and performance claims
These are Cloudflare marketing statements, and several are inconsistent.
- Locations: The Workers page says “335+ cities” in the body and “330+ cities” in the meta description. The network page says “348 cities, 8 regions” and “100+ countries.”
- Latency: The network page’s stat block says “250ms to 95% of the world’s Internet users,” while a feature section says “sub-50ms to 95% of users.” These cannot both be right, so I would not quote either.
- Cold starts: The page claims “No cold starts” without a measurement.
- Scale claim: It says the platform is “built on systems powering 20% of the Internet,” with no method.
For an independent view of how many sites sit behind Cloudflare, W3Techs shows 27.6% of all websites using Cloudflare as a reverse proxy in October 2026, and a W3Techs post dated September 4, 2026 puts Cloudflare’s CDN usage at 25%. That measures Cloudflare’s proxy and CDN, not Workers. W3Techs does not break out Workers.
npm downloads, and a warning about reading them
I pulled these from npm’s public downloads API on October 21, 2026.
| Package | Sep 19 to Oct 18, 2026 | Sep 19 to Oct 18, 2025 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
wrangler (Workers CLI) | 106,478,817 | 8,124,564 | About +1,211% |
@cloudflare/workers-types | 48,310,469 | 4,952,969 | About +875% |
hono (web framework popular on Workers) | 291,087,183 | 9,623,685 | About +2,925% |
@astrojs/cloudflare (Astro adapter) | 4,692,796 | 406,814 | About +1,053% |
react (control) | 772,199,411 | 192,094,319 | About +302% |
I calculated the changes from the counts above.
- The control check: React’s own downloads rose about 4x in the same window. That is more than real developer growth explains, so npm counts across the ecosystem appear inflated. I could not identify the cause. Automated installs, CI, AI coding tools and counting changes are possibilities.
- These packages grew far faster than React.
wranglergrew about 13x,workers-typesabout 10x andhonoabout 30x, against React’s 4x. So growth beyond the ecosystem baseline does exist, though I cannot say how much is real use. - Why the packages may be installed automatically: Wrangler and Workers types appear in many project templates, and some frameworks pull in Hono, but I did not verify any of those links, so treat that as a possibility only.
- Do not add the rows together or turn any of them into a user count. npm counts include repeat installs, CI and bots.
GitHub and open source
- workerd, the open-source runtime behind Workers: about 8.7k stars and 738 forks, Apache-2.0 (Oct 21, 2026).
- workers-sdk, home of Wrangler: about 4.5k stars and 1.5k forks, licensed under Apache-2.0 and MIT.
- I found no dated earlier star counts, so I make no growth claim.
Cloudflare and Astro
Cloudflare announced on January 16, 2026 that the Astro framework team was joining it, with no price disclosed. Astro 6 added a development mode that runs Cloudflare’s workerd runtime.
The Astro adapter’s downloads are in the table above. See our Astro statistics article for details.
Cloudflare Workers Pricing context
The free tier and $5 floor make small projects cheap, but you still pay for developer time and any services you connect, such as databases or AI.
For one market’s build rates, see our website development cost in India. For a competing platform’s numbers, see our Vercel statistics page.
What the numbers suggest
- Cloudflare says Workers is its fastest-growing product. The 7.4 million developer count and the claim of about 2 million added in one quarter come from management, not a definition-checked source.
- Cloudflare itself is growing quickly. Revenue was up 36% to $696.1 million in Q2 2026, and the company guided to $2.864 to $2.870 billion for the year.
- Workers tooling downloads outgrew React. Wrangler, Workers types and Hono grew far faster than React’s own roughly 4x.
- Pricing is simple and low at the entry level. Free, then $5 a month with generous included usage and no egress fees.
- Independent usage data for Workers does not exist. W3Techs tracks Cloudflare’s proxy, not Workers.
